Juan Mendez's Autobiography (submitted 5/12/06)

The Hero in My Family
by Juan Mendez

The hero in my family is my mom, Lucia De Jesus, because when I need her she is with me. One Saturday, a short time ago, in the morning, she made me some pancakes and poured me some milk.

Then, I got up when she called me. I smelled the pancakes and gave a kiss to my mom and said, "Thank you for the food, Mom!" She smiled.

When the remote control to the TV and the VCR was lost, my mom looked under the sofa and I said, "Thank you, Mom, for finding the control." She smiled.

That night when I was going to sleep, I couldn't find my special pillow. And she found my pillow in her room and my mom said, "This is for you!"

I hugged her and said, "You're the best mom in the whole world."

My mom said, "Eres el nino mas mejor en el mundo. You're the best boy in the world." And, she smiled the most beautiful smile in the world.
