Tassie, a Scotsman, was a carver of wax portraits, a modeler for Wedgwood (1769-1774), and a carver of relief portraits in other media.

An oval ceramic medallion portrait, side view, virtually identical to that in wax by Louis Gosset (q.v.) is in the collection of the National Gallery of Scotland, and is Sellers, Pl. 9, no 2.
