Mason Chamberlin was born in London, England, in 1727. A portrait artist perhaps best known for his rendition of Benjamin Franklin, he studied art under Francis Hayman and exhibited at the Society of Artists and the Free Society. Chamberlin and Haymen both were founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768.
