Charles Artois, Comte d'
1757 - 1836
The Comte d'Artois, brother of Louis XVI, was patron of the porcelain manufactory established in the Paris suburb of St. Denis in 1771. An ultra-royalist, d'Artois assumed the throne as Charles X in 1824 on the death of his brother, who had ruled in France from 1814 to 1824. In 1830, the aged king abdicated in favor his grandson, Henri. However, the French Chamber of Deputies instead raised to the throne the Duc d'Orleans, Louis Philippe.
