Francis Hopkinson
1737 - 1791
Francis Hopkinson, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, was a lawyer with homes both in Philadelphia and in New Jersey. He was an associate of Franklin's, not only politically but through his interest in literary and scientific matters.

In 1759, he succeeded Franklin as Secretary of the Library Company; he was a participant in his scientific inquiries (Franklin bequeathed scientific tools to him), and he was one of the executors of Franklin's will.
