Antoine Noël Benôit Graincourt
1748 - 1823
Graincourt was celebrated during his lifetime as a miniaturist whose works had "high finish" (Sellers, quoting from Nouvelles de la Republique des sciences et des arts, August 17, 1779.

His patron was the Cardinal de Luynes, who was a supporter of the Salon de la Correspondance. By that means, Graincourt could be assured of a gallery for his works. According to Sellers, Graincourt's great work was the authorship of a biographical history of the French navy, published in 1780, which was illustrated with portraits done by him.
