Witt is cited in Lindsey, Worldly Goods, as being an English physician, artist and natural scientist who came to the Pennsylvania colony to become part of Johannes Kelpius' brotherhood. According to Lindsey, he became a clockmaker and was the master of the clockmakers Christopher Sauer and Robert Claymore.
