Pierre-Michel Alix Color aquatint; Engraved surface: H. 9 1/2 in. (24.1 cm), W. 8 in. (20.3 cm) Collection of Stuart E. Karu The print was planned by Alix to be part of a series of portraits of great men. The series was begun in July 1790 and completed in 1797. The portrait of Franklin was shown at the Paris Salon of 1795, perhaps taking advantage of the publicity that would have surrounded Franklin's return to the United States.
