The print is an allegorical representation of the four corners of the world, represented by four symbolic figures, paying respect at the tomb of Voltaire. Franklin, in fur cap, mocassins and robe, represents the New World.

The engraving is signed C.M., and inscribed "Se vend à Paris chez Alibert Md. des Estampes, au Palais Royale, et chez LeNoir, Md. des Estampes du Roi, au Louvre / 1785". (Sold in Paris at the shop of Alibert, Printseller, at the Palais Royale, and at the shop of LeNoir, Printseller to the King, at the Louvre / 1785)
