Otherwise on ongoing display at the Franklin Institute
Provenance
Presented by the niece of Franklin (daughter-in-law of Jane Mecom) to one Mrs. McLanahan in 1839, aged 82. [N.B.: records not clear whether the niece or Mrs. McLanahan was 82]. Bought after her death by George Gordum [also written Gordom], July 1846. Presented to The Franklin Institute by Judith Anna Gordom, 1938. The chair could possibly have been used in the childhood home of Franklin, or those of any of his siblings, but there is no documentation to support it.
