The oval portrait depicts Franklin looking right, wearing a brown coat with fur trim, white shirt, tan vest, and no wig. The narrow gilt frame is enclosed in a (later?) rectangular outer frame of enameled black wood, with a small brass bird at the top center. Below the image is a small plaque that reads: "Presented by John F. Lewis, Jr." Its back is covered in several layers of newspaper. At the top right corner is written (by Lewis?): "Bought by me from L. Gotchoff who got it from Mrs. L.W. Baugh."
