The style of this dining table is like many made in the Delaware Valley in the late 18th century. Its narrow top permitted it to be placed against a wall. When needed for dining, it was brought into the center of a room, its two leaves were lifted, and the movable swinging legs (called "gates") were pulled into position to support them.
