The low, hemispherical bowl has a broad profile; its sides are somewhat cupped, and rise to a narrow applied drawn-wire rim or lip. The foot has a high ogee profile. It is engraved on the side, below the rim, in serif capital letters of varying thickness and of two sizes, with the inscription D.EVANS to S. FRANKLIN. It is marked beneath the rim three times: PS in a small shield (Belden p. 401b) The bowl was analyzed at Winterthur Museum's laboratory, and its silver content was found to be consistent with other works from Syng's shop. It is recorded in the Decorative Arts Photograph Collections at Winterthur: DAPC #80.217, 80.217a, 80.217b, bowl and marks.
