Sellers, Charles Coleman, Benjamin Franklin in Portraiture (New Haven: Yale University, 1962) pp. 420-422, not illus.

Sellers (pp. 420-21) quotes a 1782 letter from Caleb Whitefoord to William Temple Franklin in which Whitefoord describes lending the portrait to Benjamin West to assist West in completing his group portrait of the Peace Commissioners (the work now owned by the Winterthur Museum). Whitefoord gave the portrait to the Royal Society in 1790.
