Provenance
According to a metal label accompanying the pitchers, they were the property of Governor Caleb Lyon of Idaho, from whose estate they were purchased by L. Kountz in 1882. They were presented to Yale by deLancey Kountz, an alumnus, in 1899.

There is a slight possibility that they were bought by Franklin. If there is, indeed, a direct Franklin connection, it seems more likely due to purchase by a member of the Bache family (while Franklin was alive?).
