Provenance
The service descended from Sarah Bache, apparently in conjunction with Carnegie Museum of Art's 75.26.1. Franklin's accounts do not appear to contain an entry that covers the purchase of the service, but his correspondence contains many references to ceramics that he bought either as gifts or because of his interest in encouraging the development of the industry in the colonies, later the states.

These wares are of additional interest because they show the Worcester factory copying the shapes of Chinese teawares closely.
