David A Schorsch - Eileen M. Smiles (Woodbury, Connecticut)
Franklin had commissioned from Benjamin Wilson a copy of his portrait, to be sent to Philadelphia as a gift for his friend, Dr. Thomas Bond. When Franklin returned to Philadelphia, he observed that the painting's surface had developed craquelure. Wilson painted a replacement one, and the damaged one was returned to him in London.
