Provenance
The painting remained in the artist's family through the 19th century, was purchased from Rosalie Vallance Tiers (Mrs. Charles P.) Jackson, his great-granddaughter, by Charles Henry Hart, from Hart by Alexander Smith Cochran in 1908, and bequeathed to the American Scenic and Historic Preservation Society (administrators of Philipse Manor Hall) in 1929. The Society is no longer in existence; Philipse Manor Hall is now in the New York State Park system.
