Provenance
The tea bowl (cup) and saucer were owned in the family of John and Ann Bartram until bequeathed to the John Bartram Association in 1982 by Dr. John B. Bartram. Line of descent is John & Ann Bartram, John Bartram, Jr., James Howell Bartram, John James Bartram, William M. Bartram, Margaret Howell Bartram, Dr. John B. Bartram.

Family tradition, cited in two documents that accompanied the gift, has always averred that Deborah Franklin gave six "cups and saucers" to Ann Bartram. Given with the porcelain to the John Bartram Association was a spoon (JBA accession #82.17), silver plated on brass, that was believed to have accompanied the gift.
