Hendrik (or Heinrich) Goltzius Engraving; "Magnanimo": H. 14 1/2 in., W. 9 3/8 in.; "Solus": H. 14 3/4 in., W. 9 1/4 in. Private Collection Two from a series of apocryphal portrait views from a series entitled "The Roman Heroes": "Magnanimo" and "Solus." Both are depicted with the exaggerated postures, complicated composition, and highly detailed costumes and surroundings considered characteristic of Northern Mannerist style. Goltzius was a master engraver, and his skill enabled him to fill the paper with swirling lines and elaborate patterns.
