A claret-colored silk suit made for Franklin during his years at Passy, France, has survived as part of the collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society. For the exhibition, "Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World," a detailed replica was made to permit visitors to see Franklin as he was during his delicate diplomatic negotiations.

Bills survive from the French tailor from whom he ordered clothing while at Passy; it is possible that the suit came from that shop.
