The image is of Franklin's head, shoulders, and chest. The portly figure faces forward, looking ahead. His hair is swept away from his head and face and falls in soft waves onto his shoulders. A cravat is wrapped high around his throat, knotted prominently below his chin. His shoulders and chest are swathed in the folds of cloth that suggest a Roman toga and close the sculptural image.
