  • Further Information
The set of measuring aids comprises a table scale and twelve small weights, and a box in which they can be stored. The box is rectangular, appears to be of mahogany, and has a hinged cover. It closes with a large (1 1/2-inch), S-shaped, stamped brass latch on the cover that catches a wire loop in the upper rim of the front wall.

The parts of the scale are a pair of shallow, circular brass pans that can be suspended by cords from a metal (steel?) frame. A long, swinging needle registers when the two pans are hanging in balance.

On the underside of the box is glued the label of William Sangster, scale maker, "At the King's Arms in Butcher Row, Temple Barr."

The weights vary in appearance and age.
