Ongoing display in the Powel House, S. Third Street, Philadelphia, a historic site administered by the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks.
Provenance
The scales came with the history of having been given to Samuel Powel III by Franklin. Franklin had been an associate of Powel's father and grandfather. The younger man visited with Franklin in London while on the Grand Tour 1769-70, and the two remained friends. The set was given to Landmarks by Miss Lydia Bond in memory of her father-in-law, Harford Willing Hare Powel (1856-1925).
