The oval matte porcelain plaque featuring a profile bust of Franklin is mounted on a larger matte porcelain plaque ornamented with relief flowers and ribbons. Richard Champion, of the Bristol, England, pottery, is known to have manufactured medallion portraits of Washington and Franklin surrounded by broad frames ornamented with such flowers and ribbons, and to have given examples of both to Washington.
