  • Further Information
Oval portrait medallion of white biscuit porcelain, featuring a bust profile of Franklin in contemporary dress, mounted on a larger, oval, bisque porcelain plaque. The smaller portrait medallion is surrounded by a laurel wreath tied at bottom center with a fluttering bowknot, which serves to mask the joint of the smaller and larger medallions. It appears to hang from a larger knot of ribbon and roses centered at the top of the wide frame. Scattered over the frame's ground are ribbons and flowers in full relief, arranged in rococo profusion.

Examples of this plaque, though very rare, are owned by the British Museum, Harvard's Fogg Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
