Provenance
It was originally owned by Madame Helvétius, and descended in the family of her daughter, the Marquise de Mun. It was purchased from the family by Gilbert Chinard, who brought it to Philadelphia and offered it to the American Philosophical Society. It was purchased by that organization in 1948.
