This image is derived from the West original, with the addition of pencil inscriptions at the lower right, "An original Sketch/by/Benjamin West--"; and, in the right corner, "Franklin/Adams/Jay/&/Laurens/Temple Franklin; and "Paris/1783 Treaty of Peace."

A third version, described as being closer in appearance to the original, was painted as a gift to John Jay, the grandson of the Signer, and given him by Mr. and Mrs. George Grote (possibly sometime soon after 1835).
