Provenance
The painting is thought to have been given to Lewis Cass, Minister to France (1836-42) while he was in Paris. It passed by descent to his grandson, Cass Canfield, to Katherine Emmet (Mrs. Cass) Canfield by 1938. A Gift of Cass Canfield, Sr., and Cass Canfield, Jr., to the State Department's Diplomatic Reception Rooms.
