Jacques Thouron
Watercolor or oil on ivory, and gold; Oval: H. 3 3/16 in., W. 2 3/8 in.
Musée du Louvre
Sellers cites a small number of miniatures of Franklin by either Thouron or Weyler. Less a portrait than an evocation, the vivid image is of a wild-eyed man with flying white hair. His dress is disheveled: white shirt, gold waistcoat barely visible beneath an unspecific blue or dark coat or robe. One has a slender, moulded gold frame with a loop at the center top, which indicates that the miniature is intended to be worn. The other has a wider frame with a beaded inner ring.
