The engraved portrait of Franklin by Charles Nicholas Cochin provided the source for Will's portrait, which extended and elaborated on Cochin's depiction: Franklin's fur cap was matched by a fur coat; he was given a far more rotund profile, and he was positioned before a table, with a book in his left hand.
