This walking stick or cane of bamboo has a handle of carved bone or other organic material with a central hole. The joint of the bamboo shaft and bone handle is masked by a silver ring on which is engraved the Latin words EXEMPLUM EST AD IPSE. An oval hole is drilled through the shaft to receive a cord or ribbon (now missing). The tip or ferrule is of brass, 3 inches long.
