The profile portrait of Franklin's head, neck and upper shoulder is interesting in that it suggests a familiarity of the artist with the features of his subject. Around the edge of the obverse is the dedication "BENJ. FRANKLIN MINISTR PLENT DES ETATS UNIS DE L'AMERIQ. SEPT. MDCCLXXXIII." It is signed under the shoulder "BERNIER." Around the edge of the reverse is the inscription "DE LEURS TRAVEUX NAITRA LEUR GLOIRE." Beneath the image is the title "DES NEUF SOEURS."

An example of this medal is owned by the American Philosophical Society.
