In the 19th century this image was owned by the French sculptor Pierre-Jean d'Angers. By 1881 it was in the collections of the Musée de Beaux-Arts d'Angers.

The Bust was exhibited from December 2007 through March 2008 in the Franklin Exhibition at the Musee des Arts et Metiers in Paris, in Paris and is illustrated in their catalogue Benjamin Franklin, Homme de science, Homme du monde. Sellers pl.19
