The collections of the National Museum of American History (Smithsonian Institution) contain a pewter "Fugio" dollar believed engraved by Elisha Gallaudet of New York as the model for a silver dollar. The dollar was never minted.
The history of the design and minting of these first coins is convoluted. An excellent account can be found through the University of Notre Dame.
The Masonic Library in Philadelphia owns two examples; the American Philosophical Society, Philadelphia, also owns one.
