Benjamin Franklin: A How-to Guide
June 5, 2006 - December 22, 2006
What do you know and how do you know it? Today, we are surrounded by self-help literature and how-to guides. This how-to universe didn’t always exist. It has a history, and its history explains a great deal about Benjamin Franklin, that self-made American.

Featuring rare books and scientific instruments, the exhibition explores the how-to theme in two Harvard galleries. At Houghton Library, the focus is on the circulation of knowledge; at the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, it is on science and sociability.
