Provenance
Donor: Given to HSP by dealers and collectors Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Sussel. The chair was donated with the history of having come from the Bache farm, "Settle" and to have been used by Franklin when he went to visit the family there. According to HSP records, the chair was bought by Sussel from Mrs. Eugenie Hummel Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan reported that the chair was in the house when the property was bought by her grandfather, Jacob Hummel, around 1836.
